Oakley is finally here!

My due date for our little squish was September 14th, 2015. We went in that week and the midwives found that Oakley was already weighing at a possible 9 pounds and they determined if she didn't come by the due date, we would need to induce. I had a very specific natural birth plan, so neither Ty or I was excited to hear this, but we felt that based on the information it would be best for our little squish and I.

The morning of September 15th, Tyler and I woke up bright and early (5am) and got ready to go to the hospital. We said goodbye to Griff, gathered my very overly prepared hospital bags and left. The whole ride there while I held Tyler's hand, I was shaking. I was scared. I didn't know what to expect, and I was hoping that I was strong enough to endure the journey I had ahead of me (not just labor, but caring for this little squishy of mine too)!

When we arrived, we had THE SWEETEST nurse ever! She could tell I was nervous and so she started making small chat asking all about my pregnancy journey. I told her how important it was for me to try and do this naturally, and she made a poster for me that said "YOU CAN DO THIS!" and hung it up above the bed so that I could see it. I was already having small contractions when I went in, so when they put me on the Pitocin, the contractions got quicker fairly fast. However, I honestly wasn't feeling much "pain." The midwife came and checked on me mid morning, but I hadn't progressed a whole lot at that point, so they slowly raised the Pitocin level. Meanwhile, the midwife encouraged us to tell our sweet nurse our story of trying to get pregnant (see previous blog). I had brought the onesie that had hung above my nightstand and the nurse decided to hang that on my medical board for encouragement as well.

Overall, the day started out fairly relaxing. Ty and I just listed to the labor music playlist we had put together with the help from our doula, and we waited for my mom, his mom, his sister, my dad, and my doula to get there. Theeeeennn I started to feel the contractions.... :(

It wasn't until afternoon that the contractions really started to get more intense. Everything I had planned to help me through the contractions became harder because I had to be hooked up to all of these stupid monitors and chords due to being induced (plus, they were having a hard time consistently getting "squishy's" heartbeat. The giant jetted bathtub was out of the picture now, and I struggled to even do much on the labor ball. So Tyler was my rock. He is what helped me get through every contraction. I started to feel horrible back labor pain, so Tyler would push on my legs (which helped A TON) for every contraction. We had our music playing full blast and Ty and I would sing to our songs through the contractions as well. Ha!  It was quite the sight to see.

My dad and Sue came to visit and I'm pretty sure as soon as they came and saw me, they ran back out the door as fast as possible as I'm sure I screamed their ears off. Tyler's mom and sister showed up and my mom showed up. Most of the time, people waited in the waiting room to give Ty and I some space.

15 hours of natural labor and screaming/singing through the contractions and still I had only progressed to 4-5 cm. (Which really wasn't much seeing as how I was dilated to a 3 when I came in that morning.) The midwife suggested that I get an epidural to help relax a little bit and get through the night since it seemed I was in for the long haul. My mom decided to stay the night with me and Tyler (and to help so that Tyler could have a little break as well).

After the epidural, I finally got a little nap, but not much because the nurses kept coming in to help me turn and move around. Squish was facing the wrong way, so we were trying to get her turned so that it might help things progress. A few hours after the epidural was put in and they had upped my Pitocin even more, I started feeling my legs and the contractions again. I told the nurses, but no one seemed to be listening too much or doing anything about it. Soon, I was screaming in pain again from contractions (which were so close together now it didn't seem like there were any rest periods). They finally got the anesthesiologist to look at my epidural and it had completely come out (probably due to all of the moving around they were doing to try and re-position squish).

So, I got a SECOND epidural and by then it was 9/16/15 at about  5 am. My midwife came in and said that it was time to start talking about "other options." Squish's heart rate had started to escalate and monitors were showing she was in slight distress. I immediately burst into tears. I hadn't wanted any of this (Pitocin, epidural, and now C-Section). Everything had gone the opposite of how I was hoping. Tyler and I held each other and cried for quite awhile. My mom called my sister Danae (who had also had an emergency C-Section) and I basically just sat there balling on the phone while she talked to me and tried to comfort me. I literally don't think I said a word back to her.

Our midwife tried to hold off on the C-Section until a little later in the morning, because the current doctor on call was one she had never done a surgery with. (Let's be honest, she didn't outright say this, but it was pretty obvious). At 8 am, there was a shift change and the new doctor on call was Dr. Cox (who is very well known for being amazing!) Dr. Cox came in and made jokes with me and truly calmed me down about everything. He put me so at ease and it was such a relief.

I was laying flat on my back as the anesthesiologist had just prepared me for the surgery and told me I could not sit up at all from this point forward. A nurse came over and gave me a large pill and told me to take it. I didn't even know what it was, I just stuck it in my mouth. All of a sudden, I was foaming at the mouth and choking on the pill. She had given me an Alkaseltzer pill WITHOUT dissolving it in water first! I tried to ask the anesthesiologist if I could sit up to take water, but he didn't know what had happened and immediately said no because of the epidural. They all finally realized what had just happened and the anesthesiologist got pretty mad at the nurse. Apparently, she was newer and still training. Ha! Looking back it is pretty funny, but in the moment, I was not a happy camper. The rest of the time, the anesthesiologist (who had previously been a little crabby towards me) was the nicest most supportive one out of everybody. I think he must have felt bad about the incident and was trying to make up for it.

As they rolled me into the room (w/o Tyler at first), I was shaking extremely bad. My entire body felt super cold and I was so nervous that I was shaking everywhere! The anesthesiologist got me some warm blankets and covered me everywhere possible with them and I started to calm down a little bit. He tried to make jokes with me and talk me through everything I was seeing while all of the doctors and nurses prepped everything for the C-Section. Even though our midwife was in the surgery assisting the doctor, I honestly don't remember talking to her again until long after the surgery.

Tyler was finally able to come into the room and sit next to me and hold my hand. I stared at him for awhile, but after the surgery started, I had to just close my eyes and think about the little girl I was about to meet to try and get my mind off of what was about to happen. At one point during the surgery, I felt the doctor basically climb on top of me and yank and pull. I still don't know exactly what was happening since I was at that point just trying to drown everything out.

All of a sudden, she was out and I immediately heard her cry out. The doctor held her over the screen so I could see her sweet little chubby self, and then they whisked her away to check and make sure everything was okay. Our daughter was finally here, gracing us with her presence on 9/16/15 at 9:33 am weighing at 8.4 LBS, 21 inches long, and a 15 inch head.

Tyler looked at me like he wasn't sure what to do. (He later told me he felt pulled in two directions between staying with his wife, and going to meet his daughter). I looked straight at him and very sternly said, "Go to her!" I couldn't be with her in that moment and needed Tyler to stay with her for the rest of the time. The anesthesiologist was still with me, and as I heard our daughter crying I kept whispering, "I'm a mom! I'm a mom!" over and over. The anesthesiologist looked at me and said, "Yep, you are a mom!" Ha! Tyler brought her back over to me and I got to touch her sweet face for the first time. I couldn't believe the emotions overwhelming me, and this sweet little miracle that was finally given to us. The anesthesiologist said to Tyler, do you have a phone so I can take a picture for you. (Neither one of us had even thought about pics and I am so grateful for this 3rd party who knew we would want to document this incredible moment in our lives).

Tyler went with our daughter as the doctor's sewed me up. (Side note: Dr. Cox is well known for VBACs so hopefully with his technique, I will still be able to experience a vaginal birth in the future). They then took me to the recovery room, and Tyler brought our daughter to me and I got to fully hold her for the first time. I know there was a lot going on around me in the recovery room with the nurses checking everything, but I didn't notice any of it. I was so focused on this sweet little girl who finally was here after 23 hours of labor.

We could immediately tell that this labor was not just hard on me, but definitely hard on our little girl. She had a fairly large lump on her head since she was sunny side up and had been hitting my pelvis over and over every time I contracted. She also had some slight bruising on her head and on her face (along with some sweet storks kiss birthmarks that are now one of my favorite things about her). In the end, even though this was not the way I had wanted things to go, I was just grateful it was all over and that she was here safe. Tyler and I almost immediately knew that she was going to be Oakley Claire Despain. We had Oakley and Claire both as top first names of ours, and they just sounded perfect combined together.

Honestly, our hospital stay is all a blur. I remember Oakley being one of the most aware babies I had ever seen and everybody commenting on this and the fact that her eyes were always wide open taking everything in. I remember her nursing like a champ (even though I did had to get help from an amazing nurse to help get her latched every time), and I remember sleeping with her at night with her just sleeping on my chest. It was rare that I had the nurses take her away, although I did a few times to try and get a little more sleep so I could recover.

This little girl was and is the greatest blessing in my life and I am so excited for the adventures Tyler, Oakley, and I are going to have together.

Pregnancy

Looking back, I really did have an easy pregnancy, but in the middle of it I pretty much thought I was going to die! BAHAHAHA! I tried to stay positive in my head because I truly was so grateful to finally be bringing a mini Tyler-Arianne into the world; but I probably drove my family, my friends, and my co-workers crazy for 9 months and beyond! Here is just a quick breakdown of my pregnancy:

Pregnancy Pros:
  • From pre-pregnancy to end of my pregnancy, I only gained a total of 3 pounds. Baby girl basically just ate my fat for what she needed while she was in there.
  • I got to shop for some new clothes.
  • I never had to deal with heartburn
  • For some reason, I had weird discoloration of my skin that sort've made me look more tan than I actually was!
  • The only true craving I had was at the beginning when I was having nausea... all I wanted was York Peppermint Patties.
  • Scratch that, I did have one theme craving of fruit throughout the entire pregnancy. Definitely not the worst craving to have!
  • Once I got used to feeling baby girl move, it was so incredibly fun to feel like I was never alone! I always had someone to talk to, sing to, and play with!
  • I had so many great friends and family that helped me get ready for baby, brought me food and snacks at work, helped throw me two great baby showers, and donated so many things to us that we were truly ready to have baby by the time I was like 4 months along!
  • I had an amazingly patient husband who helped me through all of the smorgasbord of emotions that I went through and took care of everything around the house when I was too huge to move!
  • Literally, I had people waiting on me hand and foot!
  • At the end of it all, I got the sweetest little girl who is truly blessing my life more and more every day!
Pregnancy Struggles:
  • One of the reasons I didn't gain a ton of weight was because I basically didn't want to eat for the whole beginning of my pregnancy. I was nauseous and nothing sounded good to eat.
  • Even though I lost weight I had a summer pregnancy and therefore blew up like a balloon with water retention. None of my shoes fit me and my fingers looked like sausages.
  • Remember that shopping spree I talked about... I pretty much had to do that so I didn't look like a stuffed turkey in all my clothing.
  • When I first started feeling baby girl, I struggled with it. Until I got used to it, I felt like there were worms inside of me and it was harder for me to get used to than people portray.
  • Baby girl liked to arch her back and stick her butt or head or whatever it was straight up out of my belly which caused constant pressure every which way!
  • The sensation to pee 24/7 is real!
  • I pretty much didn't sleep (which was okay because it prepared me for when baby girl was here!)
  • The back and hip pain I felt because I was already overweight and then I was trying to carry a watermelon was excruciating!
  • I had a pre-eclampsia scare and had to be super careful about my blood pressure.
  • My husband had to have knee surgery when I was 7 months pregnant in the middle of the hot summer and I truly struggled to try and take care of him while carrying a bowling ball!
  • The worst part of the pregnancy was the end, trying to wait for baby girl to come. The anxiety about killed me... until labor... then the labor just killed me more. :)
2015 was one of the hardest and most rewarding years and pregnancy was an adventure I will never forget!

2015 Is Our Year!!

I have been MIA from the blogging world for SOOOOO long. I don't know that anyone else necessarily cares, but I wish I was better at journaling, blogging, SOMETHING that involved documenting my sweet family a little better. I have made a goal to start up again (not that that hasn't happened before), but at the very least I want to get a few memories of mine and Tyler's newest adventure. We have added our sweet daughter Oakley Claire Despain to this adventure club and trust me... adventure is still out there!!!

FINDING OUT WE WERE PREGNANT:
Tyler and I had been trying to have a baby for a little over 3 years and definitely felt discouraged. We had made a conscious decision that 2015 was going to be our year and had scheduled to start the fertility process beginning January 2015. Until then, we were trying to just put it out of our minds and let it go.

At the end of November, I had a friend suggest that we go to the store and buy a baby outfit that jumped out at us, bring it home, and hang it somewhere that we would see every day. Tyler was super hesitant about this and when we got to the store, he took one look at the baby clothes and said he couldn't do this and left the area. I picked out a little girl outfit and we left the store. I decided to hang it up on the wall above my bedside table and it was definitely something I looked at every day with hope, frustration, happiness, anger, and really it just depended on the day...

In January, we met with my midwife (OBGYN) that I had been going to for awhile. Tyler started having some more tests done and my midwife put me on birth control to try and help me regulate and get ready to start the fertility road. I had always HATED birth control because it made me so sick and literally crazy! That is pretty much what I would say I felt the entire month of January was sick and crazy. Ha! February came, the placebo pills started, and still no period... WHAT?! I called and the nurse told me that it was normal and I should just keep taking the pills like normal and I may just start on the next cycle. I didn't feel right about it though. As much as I didn't want to take another failed pregnancy test, I just felt like I needed to be sure so I had Tyler go buy me one. Tyler really didn't think this was anything and I could tell he was just waiting for another disappointment. I literally came bounding out of the bathroom with huge eyes and both him and I couldn't believe it... WE WERE PREGNANT!!!

We got an even bigger shock when we went to my midwife and found out that not only were we pregnant, but we were already 9 weeks along! Yes people... we got pregnant in December shortly after I bought the outfit and hung it by my bed. We were so excited to start this journey and finally solidified we were right... 2015 was definitely going to be our year!

Hello From PA...

Hey all! So first of all I apologize for being MIA for so long. Things are busy and a little crazy out here in the middle of nowhere Womelsdorf, PA. This is mainly going to be a picture update but here are just a few things I have been enjoying out here on the east coast...

  • Going on nature walks (I found this seed that had a heart inside)

  • Watching the Super Bowl for the first time in like 5 yrs. (with Danielle of course - Patriots fan?)
  • Before Patriots Lost.............................After Patriots Lost

  • Eating a giant pizza in the middle of scary Reading and almost getting killed
  • Getting "Happy" flowers from my hubby!

  • Having SKYPE dates with Tyler (watching movies on netflix while Skyping!)

Internship: 1st Week

I had originally typed up this whole long blog about my adventures this last week; but I got bored reading back through it. Which means I KNOW that you would all fall asleep. So, here is my week condensed (it is still long, but I tried I promise):
  • Friday Afternoon - 30th: Packed up, moved, and cleaned the entire apartment
  • Friday Night - 30th: Ty drove me to the SLC airport while I cried like a baby. Said goodbye to the love of my life for 6 months.
  • Saturday 12:55 am - 31st: Sat on a plane for 3 1/2 hours with sleeping people on both sides of me and cried (while not sleeping) the entire 3 1/2 hours to Atlanta.
  • Saturday 6-ish am - 31st: Got on another plane for another 2 hours to Baltimore with a small child kicking my seat the whole way.
  • Saturday 10-ish am - 31st: Privately escorted to my 9 seat er plane to Lancaster, PA in which the only people on the plane were me and the pilot. (Surprisingly, it was the cheapest flight available).
  • Saturday Morning, Afternoon, Night - 31st: Drove with a friend to Bethany Children's Home while getting a beautiful view of the Amish farm lands and horse drawn buggies. Arrived at Bethany's and cried myself to sleep (finally). I think I may have had phone conversations with a few people in the middle of sleeping - Nanette - but I don't remember these too much.
  • Sunday - 1st: Woke up and cried some more. Met the other 3 interns and started feeling a little better after bonding a little with them.
  • Monday - 2nd: Sat around with the other interns and laughed A LOT! Cried myself to sleep again.
  • Tuesday - 3rd: Officially began the internship. Began a week of complete culture shock with a predominantly black culture. (Can't understand a word anyone says).
  • Wednesday - 4th: Learned what the term "Nigga-Itis" means. (In case you thought this was offensive - I definitely did at first - apparently it is a very common term used out here. Just ask me personally if you want to know...)
  • Thursday - 5th: Accidentally left an orientation video about gangs paused and open for a few of the clients to clearly see. Which in turn triggered a whole lot of inappropriate discussions by the kids about whose family members were in which gangs and what the different hand signals were. :(
  • Friday - 6th: Officially became overwhelmed by being away from my husband again, some more culture shock, and learned that our financial situation is definitely not peachy for the time being. Cried some more.
  • Saturday - 7th: Cleaned and organized my belongings and sat around talking with my fellow interns.
  • Sunday - 8th: Woke up and attended the weirdest church service I have ever experienced. Sat around some more talking with the other interns.
Sporadically through all of these days, I have also had spurts of the following:
  • Listening to the loud train that drives by Bethany's every hour.
  • Improvising on instruments with my fellow interns while rapping and laughing.
  • Teaching the other interns how to play Twinkle, Twinkle on the violin.
  • Trying to organize all of my projects and assignments.
  • Cooked lots of yummy food with D-Love (fellow intern).
  • Sat on the couch doing leg lifts while interns make fun of me.
  • Acting like a bipolar crazy person - laughing, crying, laughing, crying... AH!!!
THE END!
Whew! That was crazy! Maybe that wasn't fun to read at all. Sorry everyone! It was a pain to write it all too.
Next week.... PICTURES of all of this! YAY!!!!

Summer/Fall Update Finally

Ok everyone! I have finally gotten my act together (and pictures) and am doing one giant summer/fall update! I apologize for how long it took me to do this! :) Not going to lie, part of the hesitance to get things updated is that I gained a lot of weight this year from all of the stress of my previous emotional job   and other random stresses in life. However, I have decided that I just need to realize we all have our ups and downs in weight and soon (now that I have been running and exercising on a regular basis) I will be back to a comfortable healthy weight and proud to look back at these pictures and see how far I have come! Anyway... here we go folks!

SUMMER
Summer was filled with A LOT of fun! In the past, Ty and I have always been so busy with school and our 2-3 jobs each, that summers have not always been so great. However, Ty cut back to one job and I quit my job and was unemployed for 2 months this summer, so we had time to have fun!
Ty and I on the Carousel at Hogle Zoo
Our first adventure was taking a trip down to Provo and Salt Lake to see my sister Carlene. Ty and I went to Hogle Zoo because we are 5 yrs old, and we also went with Ty's family to Lagoon.
Ty thought it would be ironic since I HATE spiders!

We had such a blast, and I got FRIED since I hadn't seen the sun in ages!

Erica and I waiting for the Ferris Wheel

The next adventure was Ty participating in Logan's craft summerfest this year! Neither of us had ever done anything like this before, and although it was slightly (ok, maybe more than slightly) stressful, it was still a lot of fun! Here is a picture of some of the flowers Ty made...

The star making some more flowers at his stand.

Some of the flower fun. I helped paint them! YAY!

The next adventure was something Ty completely surprised me with. He literally woke me up one day and just said, "We are going on an adventure! Pack your things!" Well, secrets don't sit well with me because I tend to have to know everything! So I finally got it out of him about halfway through the drive where we were going... FLAMING GORGE!!!
This was probably one of the most interesting trips I had ever been on. Tyler had not booked anywhere for us to stay, so when we got there it was hilarious trying to find a hotel. Then, we spent a whole day just sitting on a little fishing boat that we rented with our puppy in the middle of the lake talking and having a blast! Honestly, it really was a fun and adventurous trip! I didn't get too many pictures, but here are a few:
Ty found this on the side of the road! HA!

The rest of the summer consisted of trips to Bear Lake, A LOT of fishing, and hanging out quite a bit with our friends Kristen and Richard Christensen. Here is a last view of the summer fun...
Kristen and I at Bear Lake! SO FUN!

I caught a fish! (Don't look at my nasty fat arm)

Kristen and her husband at Bear Lake. Aren't they cute!
This sign is a REALLY long story! But every time I look at it... I can't help but BUST up laughing!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Ok, the last thing that I am going to add to this MASSIVE blog are a few pictures of this beautiful fall! Seriously, Fall makes me so happy!

Here are a few pictures of my crazy fall decorations! YAY!

Ty made an AMAZING pumpkin soup, and to doll it up he turned these little pumpkins into soup bowls! I thought it was so clever! AND YUMMY!!!!
Anyway everyone, that is the end of this long overdue update! Hopefully the upcoming holidays will be blogged in a timely manner. Ha! Love you all!
Till next time...

Hard Changes and Autumn Time...

I apologize for being non-existent for awhile. There have been some changes in the Despain family that I honestly haven't wanted to think about let alone blog about. :) As I have mentioned before, I have been given the opportunity to go to Pennsylvania for a music therapy internship. Originally, the plan was for Tyler and I to uproot and start anew together in Pennsylvania. However, Tyler has had no luck with trying to get a job in Pennsylvania and the economy there is slowly getting worse and worse. We also used quite a bit of our savings for some unexpected struggles in our life as of recently and we would have to use the rest to get us and our things moved to Pennsylvania. After a lot of crying, praying, and talking to our families... Ty and I have decided that what would be best for us financially as well as what would be best for Tyler's future schooling would be for me to go to Pennsylvania alone (which would allow me to live at the internship site with EVERYTHING paid for) and Tyler to stay in Logan working and saving money for him to start school in September 2012.
I honestly can tell you that this decision has been extremely emotional and hard. I love Tyler and cannot imagine seeing him and being with him on a daily basis. However, Tyler and I (no matter how much we hate the idea) feel right about this decision.
Anyway, that is the newest of changes in our lives so far...
On a much more happy note, AUTUMN IS HERE!!! Fall is by far my favorite time of year; and Halloween is more fun for me than Christmas! :) As of today, my house is officially decked out in fall and Halloween decorations! Yesterday was the first day it really felt like fall. It rained all day in Logan, and that evening the air smelled so fresh and crisp. I seriously went to bed last night with a GIANT smile on my face as the breeze from my window kept hitting my face.
I am FINALLY working on one big giant summer overview blog! I promise it will be here soon. I will leave with a picture of my darling puppy Griff...

Isn't he a cutie... :)

Till next time...

Having A Blast Doing Nothing...

I promise I have A TON of pictures and updates coming soon... but for now, I wanted to let everyone know I finally was able to get a job! I am working as a Utility Processor for Conservice. Probably none of you  have a clue what that means... but basically, I get paid to sit and type the same thing over and over and over. Ha! Honestly, it was exactly what I was looking for after the high stress of my last job! Anyway, YAY CONSERVICE!!!
The last thing I am going to share in this blog is the wonderful adventures Tyler and I created together tonight. Ha! I love that we can be doing absolutely NOTHING and yet still have the time of our lives! I have this noodle spoon (the ones with little spikes around the edge) that I use as a back scratch-er (No I don't use it on food anymore...). Well, while listening to a bunch of different movie theme songs, I got pretty hyper and started hitting Tyler with the spoon to the different rhythms of the music. HA! Well, after laughing about the annoyance for awhile, Ty finally got sick of it and decided to get me back...BY LICKING MY FACE!!! EEEEWWWW!!!!! Basically, we ended up on the bed hysterically laughing while our dog tried to lick us and eat us because he had no idea what was going on...
BEST NIGHT EVER!!!!

Book of the Month: The Book of Lies

Technically, my husband bought this book for himself thinking that it was a book based on the history of Cain and Able and whatever happened to the world's first murder weapon (he is into historical and informational books, unlike me...ha). Last night, after not being able to sleep, I pulled it off of the shelf and read the description and realized that it was actually a fiction novel based on historical facts (much like The Da Vinci Code). I was intrigued and began reading...
11 hours and only 3 hours of sleep later, I finished this incredible page turner in awe of this author (Brad Meltzer). WOW!! I would recommend this book to ANYONE!!!!

Here are a few highlights:

"Wouldn't it be great if we could live life backwards? You start out dead and get that out of the way-- then you wake up in old age and feel better every day. With each passing year, your illnesses disappear, and you get more hair, more handsome,  more virile-- and best of all, you keep getting younger, finally ending life as a fantastic orgasm!"
HA HILARIOUS RIGHT!!!! Here is another one:

"There's the life you live and the life you leave behind. But what you share with someone else-- especially someone you love-- that's not just how you bury your past. It's how you write your future."

I think that is my favorite for sure...
Anyway, there is my rant for the day! I know that I will be reading more Brad Meltzer in the future!

Beauty In The Little Things...

To be honest, it is hard to describe in words how I have been feeling recently. It isn't that I haven't been happy, but I have been completely unmotivated. Then the other day while reading a letter I got awhile ago from friend, something really hit me. This one sentence jumped out of the page...
"I am starting to think being happy is a choice, do you agree?"
That one question has inspired me to write this blog. I need to choose to be happy. I can't let stupid trivial trials make me forget all of the amazingly beautiful things that are currently in my life.

Life is beautiful because the sun is shining.

Life is beautiful because I have a puppy that snuggles with me in the morning.

Life is beautiful because my puppy and I went on a walk this morning.

Life is beautiful because of the bright pink flowers in my yard.

Life is beautiful because I have a piano.

Life is beautiful because my husband brought me a lady bug this morning.

Life is beautiful because I have pink nail polish on.

Life is beautiful because I showered and put make-up on this morning.

Life is beautiful because my kitty has conversations with me.

Life is beautiful because my house smells like Apples and laundry.

Life is beautiful because I made the bed this morning.

Life is beautiful because I have fresh watermelon in my fridge.

Life is beautiful because our house is shaded by HUGE gorgeous trees that make it so I don't die of heat.

Life is beautiful because I have a family who is healthy and who loves and cares for me no matter what mistakes I make.

Life is beautiful because I talked with my mother-in-law last night.

Life is beautiful because I am making a delicious chicken dinner tonight.

Life is beautiful because I have lost 7 lbs. since I quit UINTA.

Life is beautiful because I am beginning the process of healing all of the relationships I have damaged because of my ego.

Life is beautiful because i have a husband who is learning how to fix my car so we don't have to spend money.

Life is beautiful because my husband is making me a Djembe.

Life is beautiful because Ty and I can tell each other how we feel.

Life is beautiful because I have a husband who writes me love notes before going to work.

Life is beautiful because when I can't sleep, my husband wakes up randomly through the night and hugs and kisses me while he is half asleep.

Life is beautiful because I know Tyler loves me unconditionally.

Life is beautiful because even though God and I have had a distant relationship lately, I still know without a shadow of a doubt that he watches over me and loves me.

Danny and Annie

I know I am posting WAY too much! But there is one more thing I wanted to share for today. A friend shared this with me, and I am still in tears. Ha! What a darling little couple...

TYLER< I LOVE YOU!

Summer

The NUMBER ONE reason I love summer... the flowers! Here is a picture of some flowers I picked from our yard just the other day. I think they are unique and absolutely magnificent!

Big News

Hello again everyone! I am definitely on a blogging role here. (Granted I have nothing else to do with my time... all I do is clean the house 5 times a day, and journal. Ha!)
Anyway, the finale of these blog updates is another big change that will be happening this coming year for Ty and I. The last semester I researched and applied to a few different internships. Two hospitals Texas and one residential facility in Pennsylvania (Bethany Children's Home). To be honest, when I applied I just had a good feeling about Pennsylvania and truthfully I didn't put a whole lot of effort into the other internship applications. I got a call from Bethany Children's Home for an interview around mid-May and I was super excited! The interview (I thought) went really well. They said they would be calling me at the beginning of June sometime to let me know their decision.
Well, mid/late-June hit and I began feeling scared I didn't get the internship. Last week I even began researching online again for some other options that would be similar to Bethany's.
Then this past Sunday night I had a dream... (yes I like being dramatic!)
I actually dreamed that I had been given the internship and I literally remember feeling SO RELIEVED!!! Monday morning arrived, Ty went off to work, and I stayed home and began my cleaning rituals. I was in the middle of doing the dishes when my phone rang in the other room. I couldn't get to it fast enough so it went to machine. I looked at the number and immediately recognized the area code as being Pennsylvania. I got so excited and literally sat down holding my phone waiting until it signaled that there was a voice mail.
After that DING signaled the message, I listened to it intently and literally screamed when it registered that they were offering me an internship position. I was by myself jumping, yelling, and balling!! I am sure if anyone was watching they would have thought loony bin for sure!
Anyway, (wow that was a LONG explanation... I apologize) the end to this long blurb is that Tyler and I will be moving to Wormelsdorf, Pennsylvania in January of 2012. I think both of us are a little scared for this new adventure... but are also ecstatic that we have been given such a great opportunity!
If any of you are interested in reading a little about Bethany Children's Home and what I will be doing, their site is HERE. You will also find great information specifically on their Music Therapy program HERE.
Till Next Time...

Embracing Change...

To be honest, I am feeling scared out of my mind about all of the changes that have been happening in my life as of late. As I blogged before, graduation came first. Well, the next abrupt change was not one that I had planned or even thought about. As most of you know, I worked at a facility with troubled teen girls, and had been there for just under on year. I honestly cannot express how much those girls meant and still mean to me! Well, about three weeks ago, it finally hit me how much that job was taking a toll on my physical, emotional, and psychological well being. I was literally turning into a different person; a person I didn't like, and a person my husband was definitely struggling with. So, with a lot of hard thoughts, prayers, and deliberation... I decided to put in my two weeks notice and leave all of these girls I cared about so much. I fought with myself consistently for the two weeks and went back and forth on the decision (probably driving my boss crazy), but when my final day came it was definitely bitter sweet. I worked a double that day and even though all of the girls struggled  (as well as myself) when I told them that would be my last day, I really did feel right about the decision I had made. That night, I left the girls with a song that I wrote awhile ago for a music therapy session. It may seem slightly cheesy, but it seemed to mean a lot to them and it definitely meant A LOT to me! Here are the lyrics...

EMBRACE THE CHANGE
Change, it's a word I know well and as far as I can tell you do too.
Change, when you just got back on your feet and your thinking that the suns coming out.
Trials tend to come around right when we think that we have just found happiness.
So let me introduce to you a concept that I wish I knew better.

Smile through the change!
And dance even though the rain is pouring down.
Embrace what you feel!
Life's lessons will teach you and make this journey surreal.

Now I know that this lesson may seem much easier said than done.
But change, through perserverance and time can become a verse well sung.
Though hard times tend to leave us down. We lose our path and hold on ground, remember...
The future can't be set in stone, sometimes what's best is the unknown
And so....

Smile through the change!
And dance even though, the rain is pouring down!
Embrace what you feel!
Life's lessons will teach us and make this journey surreal!

Anyway, I think that sharing this song with the girls and seeing them have to deal with change and struggle on a day-to-day basis really taught me how to embrace the changes and challenges in my life as well. Ultimately, the decision to leave my job was hard, but I know that it was a necessary change for both me and the girls I worked with.

Till next time...

Long Time...

I apologize for my absence from the blogging world. Not going to lie, things have been INSANE!!! However, there are definitely some changes that have happened in my life the last few months.
First: graduation...
Although I technically won't be getting my diploma until I finish my internship, it still felt like such a huge accomplishment walking in front of my friends and family to accept my "fake" diploma as a double music therapy/ vocal performance major. What an accomplishment that was ultimately six years in the making. Here are a few pictures from THE DAY!!!!

Me accepting my blank diploma. Ha!

The woman who made it all possible... Maureen Hearns! I love you Maureen!
My darling husband who supported and encouraged me the entire way through!!

And all of my music therapy girlies that did it right along with me! I LOVE YOU ALL!!!

Ultimately, it was a great day and was very much worth it!
